Cymbolic is a work for six crash cymbal players. Two players play on Chinese “Peking” style crash cymbals (small crash cymbals or splash cymbals) and four performers play on traditional graduated crash cymbals.

This unique selection creates energy and excitement through rhythmic and motivic interplay, contrasting cymbal sounds, and a little pantomime with choreography.  Each ensemble may explore new ways to perform Cymbolic for a personalized performance.

Cymbolic is dedicated to Mark Ford’s longtime friend, Mark Reynolds, of the Sabian Cymbal Company.   The work was premiered on October 20, 2023 in Opole, Poland by the “UNT Percussion in Poland” touring ensemble.
