RE: Disaster for five percussionists is a groove-centered piece written for five concert toms of varying pitch – but lots of programs have used it successfully as a drumline ‘bass ensemble’ and its compositional structure is very similar in style.
This piece will work very well in any high school concert, and is a great low-maintenance piece for percussion concerts in general.
This piece was inspired by a memo sent to Eastman School of Music percussion students by Professor John Beck. It read, “Responsibility is the key factor to being successful-without it….DISASTER.” Within the piece, a “planned” disaster occurs, but as is usually the case, everything ends successfully. – Susan Powell
