The Surface of Life was written for my long-time friend and colleague, Professor Christopher Deane (1957-2021). Chris was an amazing performer on vibraphone as well as tambourine, and I wanted to create a work that would highlight his skills and musical gifts. The University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble premiered The Surface of Life at the 2007 Percussive Arts Society Perkumania in Paris, France.
