Percussionist/Composer Eckhard Kopetzki is well known for his unique percussion compositions. In Three Pieces for Clarinet and Percussion, Kopetzki offers three contrasting movements featuring the clarinet with marimba (4.3 octave) and multi-percussion. Movement 1, echos…still again, is a beautiful, episodic work that takes the opening clarinet and marimba dialogue to an energetic, syncopated theme. Movement 2, rhythms fall silent, introduces a small multi-percussion set up (tam-tam, bass drum, 2 tin cans, and 2 toms) without marimba, and the result is a fascinating exploration of texture, rhythm and timbre. The final movement titled times…in love brings back the marimba for a strong ending to the composition. Three Pieces for Clarinet and Percussion is about 14 minutes in duration and the work would be a wonderful addition to any student or faculty recital.
