She-e Wu’s snare drum solo Monologue was written for the 2017 Modern Snare Drum Competition, and it is a musical dialogue, with each “musical sentence” changing character.   The piece begins with an almost recitative-like section, then proceeds through several short episodes at different tempos, each with its own rhythmic style.

This piece of music is written for drummers with a significant amount of performance experience and musical training; each line contains explicit pauses, highly complex rhythms, and atypical directions that make it more organically theatrical than most snare solos.   Monologue by She-e Wu would be an excellent recital solo for an advanced snare drummer.
