The Apocryphal Still Life is a vibraphone solo written by Christopher Deane in 1996 for the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) Vibraphone Competition held that year. The work is dedicated to virtuoso vibraphonist Jon Metzger, and features Deane’s unique style of shifting textures combined with harmonics and prepared vibraphone bars unaffected by the dampening bar. As with Deane’s classic vibraphone solo, Mourning Dove Sonnet, The Apocryphal Still Life is an iconic work performed throughout the world.
